The shit show that currently is the NBA’s handling of the Hong Kong/China debacle takes another, unexpected ( but not surprising) twist.
Lakers superstar and Judas Iscariot to Cleveland, LeBron James said probably the stupidest thing in his career yesterday (and that is saying something.)
The self proclaimed “King” was asked about the situation in Hong Kong, and the NBA’s handling of the situation after Houston Rockets Executive Daryl Morley tweeted out a picture in support of the freedom protests in Hong Kong.
The NBA and Commissioner Adam Silver were quick to come up with a response, in which the commissioner said, “we will protect our employees’ freedom of speech.” Which was a move that obviously pissed off the communist Chinese.
Silver then went on to say, “I think its unfortunate. But if that’s the consequences of us adhering to our values, we still feel its critically important we adhere to those values.”
As it seemed that Adam Silver had put the fire out somewhat and the situation was under some control, woke social justice warrior Steve Kerr comes in and says he will not comment on the China issue. Kerr went on to say that, “Generally, my feeling is the things that I’m going to comment on are the things that I feel comfortable speaking about, things I feel well versed about. … There are places where I don’t feel as comfortable. This would be one of them.””
First off, what a total chicken shit move. The man will bash America every chance he gets, but when he has the opportunity to bash brutal communist Chinese dictatorship, he goes quiet because it isn’t in his financial interests to bash a communist dictatorship which has vested interests in the Golden State Warriors and the NBA.
When the NBA seemingly had this situation under control and were finally moving past it, here comes LeBron to save the day!
The self proclaimed “King” had to chime in with this two cents on the matter.
“When you’re misinformed or you’re not educated about something, and I’m just talking about the tweet itself, you never know the ramifications that can happen” LeBron said.
It got even worse, adding “Yes, we all do have freedom of speech. But at times, there are ramifications for the negative that can happen when you’re not thinking about others and you’re only thinking about yourself. I don’t want to get into a feud with Daryl Morey, but I believe he wasn’t educated on the situation at hand and he spoke. So many people could have been harmed — not only financially, but physically, emotionally, spiritually. Just be careful about what we tweet, what we say and what we do. Yes, we do have freedom of speech, but there can be a lot of negative that comes with that, too.”
What the fuck.
Seriously, what the fuck? Who says that? Who is LeBron, a man with no college education, to go out and bash a man in Morey who went to FUCKING MIT and Northwestern, two incredibly difficult schools to get into, for “not being educated on the situation at hand.” You don’t have to be “educated” on the matter at hand, you just have to have half a brain and turn on the TV or pick up the New York Times or Wall Street Journal, and you can make the conclusions pretty damn quickly.
In what mind did LeBron think, “gee, this is the perfect response to this question which can actually affect the lives of people across the globe!”
In a time in politics in which neither side can agree on literally anything, LeBron has united both the Democrats and the Republicans, in a conjoined, “what the fuck!?!”
This is without a doubt the most embarrassing moment of LeBron’s career. The one thing that the self proclaimed “King” has always stood for is social justice and advocacy for equal justice. But now, it seems that LeBron stands for money more than human rights.
The NBA and all its employees should always, unequivocally stand behind free speech and the values that this country was built upon. The moment we start to cave for financial interests is the second we lose everything this great country has to offer: free speech, human rights, the right to protest, etc.
America is great, because we are allowed to speak our mind. While LeBron is allowed to give his opinion on the matter, his opinion to anyone with eyes and ears is utterly insane. Bowing down to a country that commits some of the most horrible human rights crimes you could imagine, is not the way to do it.
There are plenty of people who have died protecting this flag and the values this country holds dearly so that we can have idiots like LeBron say things like this. We need to never forget that.
Guess Qing James will be changing that “Taco Tuesday” vibe to a “Wonton Wednesday” vibe pretty soon here.
