The NFL Draft is a week away and although I’ll probably do 5894 more mocks before Thursday’s Draft, this will most likely be my official mock barring some news. The big rumors that are transitioning conventional thought are the Texans lack of commitment tot a QB at two, the Cardinals not moving back yet and the Philadelphia Eagle’s ability to not force a need at the 10 spot.
All of these factors have the ability to be a bit more ironed out before we drop the final mocks Thursday morning but as it sits right now, this is my two round mock! Here are a few of my favorite call outs from the process overall.
I have Bryce Young at the one spot with absolutely no question in my mind this is going to happen. I think the rumor mill has slightly died down and Young remains the best overall QB (and arguably prospect) in this class, deservingly so.
I don’t foresee Jalen Carter leaving the top ten (a fairly common take). He’s too talented and too many teams have signed off on his character that I’m in the camp that he’s gone by the Lions at pick 6.
Although my love for Christian Gonzalez is well known I have Witherspoon as the highest CB in this mock. His range and size outweigh Gonzalez’s speed and ability for some teams, especially the Lions who have historically missed on corners in the draft.
I still have Nolan Smith slightly falling below the consensus right now but that all could easily change come draft night. For me, he fits into this edge class in a specific manner due to his smaller size and injury history. I would rather take a swing on an upside guy like Tyree Wilson, who historically I have said to just be a freak athlete and not a true DE, than take Smith with the info we have that’s public facing. He’s a tremendous leader and will have a stellar career most likely but I have him going in the top 20 no problem.
The Pittsburgh Steelers select OT, CB and LB which has been my call for a few weeks now. Again, this isn’t some outlandish take. and I’d argue it’s as logical as can be but I wouldn’t be floored to see a DT in that mix despite the FA’s we brought in this offseason. I made the call last night on Two Beers Deep that I just don’t see us landing Drew Sanders due to the Lions love for him so give me Campbell to combat the FA LB’s we brought in.
Enjoy the mock and let me know your thoughts!
