Start’ Em Sit’ Em Tight Ends – Week 12

Alright tight ends, let’s take a look. The start of the week last weekend was Pat Freiermuth against the Chargers. He scored a touchdown and got double-digit points so that worked. The sit of the week was Dan Arnold. he didn’t do that great against the 49ers so that checks out. Perfect people, let’s go for two.

Starts

Start of the Week;

Rob Gronkowski vs Indianapolis Colts

Gronk showed back up after injuries kept him out of multiple games being a great safety blanket for Tom Brady against the Giants. He should find a lot of success against the Colts this week. They are in the lower tier of covering the position and gave up 80 yards to Dawson Knox last weekend. Brady and Gronk are gonna rock the boat the Colts baby, calling it.

Pat Freiermuth vs Cincinnati Bengals

Pat has done wonders this season as a rookie tight end. I love this matchup between him with the Steelers against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals gave up a lot of yards to Darren Waller last weekend, and Pat has been very friendly to the endzone this season. Eric Ebron is also experiencing an injury that is gonna make him doubtful for this game making Pat a wonderful play against Cincinnati.

Noah Fant vs Los Angeles Chargers

Fant should be doing better than his numbers suggest, but here we are. Fant should have a wonderful matchup against the Chargers coming off of a bye week. The Chargers aren’t good at covering tight ends, and they gave up a touchdown to both Pat Freiermuth and Eric Ebron last weekend. Expect Fant to find the endzone to let them know who is the boss.

Dan Arnold vs Atlanta Falcons

Dan Arnold had a rough go last weekend against the 49ers, but this is his perfect matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Their defense is so bad that virtually any position could score on them. Their defense is ranked kind of high, but they screw up on a number of occasions. He will go from having no targets last weekend to seeing a few and maybe even a touchdown score this weekend against the Falcons.

Evan Engram vs Philadelphia Eagles

Engram has been having some issues as of late trying to fit back into this offense now that all the pieces are there. The Eagles however have a blind spot when it comes to coverage; tight ends. We found that out last weekend when Adam Troutman got his first touchdown of the season against the Eagles. I will be very curious to see how Engram does against Philly this weekend, but I have confidence in him so start him.

Sleepers;

Austin Hooper vs Baltimore Ravens

Logan Thomas vs Seattle Seahawks

Cole Kmet vs Detroit Lions

Sits

Sit of the Week;

Tyler Conklin vs San Francisco 49ers

Conklin is always a great option for tight end streaming. However, he is going up against the San Francisco 49ers. All I need to say is that Dan Arnold was a tight end that was targeted quite often in many games. In last week’s matchup against the 49ers, Dan Arnold wasn’t targeted at all. That’s how good the 49ers are. On that knowledge, I would avoid Conklin this week when he plays them.

Tyler Higbee vs Green Bay Packers

Higbee has become a weird off-and-on option for the Rams, but honestly, it is more off than on at this point. With OBJ arriving and the team in a little disarray, Stafford really hasn’t drawn a lot of attention to his tight ends in his career anyway, but we are always hopeful for the future. Even so, Higbee’s matchup against the Packers is less than Ideal. I’d keep him sidelined this week.

Jared Cook vs Denver Broncos

Cook is starting to become an afterthought in this offense. He had multiple opportunities to make big plays in last week’s game against the Steelers, but he couldn’t come up with anything, and he even almost fumbled the ball which would have made the game a lot worse for the Chargers. He is losing work to other tight ends, and the matchup against the Broncos isn’t the best. Keep him sidelined.

CJ Uzomah vs Pittsburgh Steelers

Normally, the Steelers aren’t that great at covering tight ends, but lately, that’s all that they have been good at covering. With matchups that have fallen flat in recent weeks with the Lions and the Chargers, I would avoid this matchup altogether considering both of those tight ends were better than Uzomah. He has had some good weeks, but I imagine this will be a bad week for him at the office.

Gerald Everett vs Washington Football Team

Everett has been an okay target for Wilson and the Seattle offense. However, he comes into a big matchup against the Washington Football Team this week. Their defense is ranked along the middle of the road, but Everett has only scored double-digits three times this season, and only one touchdown. I would keep him sidelined because I believe that this game will belong to Lockett and Metcalf with Everett being on the lower end of the mix.

Busts;

Tommy Tremble vs Miami Dolphins

Anthony Firsker vs New England Patriots

Jonnu Smith vs Tennessee Titans
