18 years ago, Allen Iverson delivered one of the greatest soundbites of all-time.
I remember this rant like it was yesterday and to this day I’ll still utter this phrase from time-to-time just to mess around when the topic comes up. I think everyone does. I mean, everyone remembers this rant, this interview, this press conference.
If you’re a basketball fan, you remember Allen “The Answer” Iverson sitting at the podium and going off on reporters who were questioning his work ethic.
“We sitting in here — I’m supposed to be the franchise player, and we in here talking about practice. I mean, listen: We talking about practice. Not a game. Not a game. Not a game. We talking about practice. Not a game. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it’s my last. Not the game. We talking about practice, man.”
There are so many other circumstances surrounding this situation too. Like why A.I. actually popped off, what led to him actually sitting down for this press conference/”exit interview” and all sorts of other things.
If you’ve never seen the entire press conference, I highly suggest you watch this because outside of the rant, which starts at about the 7:21 mark of the video above, it’s really good.
A.I. gets emotional about the loss of his best friend, Rahsaan Langeford, who was shot and killed seven months earlier and the trial for his killer had just started days before the interview.
But, 18 years ago, one of the best pound-for-pound players of all-time delivered one of the greatest sound bites of all-time and we’ll always remember it.
