Start of the Week –
Carson Wentz vs New York Giants
Wentz looked like his former self last weekend when he demolished the Dolphins with 27 points. He has another nice stat line this weekend when he takes on a divisional rival in the New York Giants. They give up the third most fantasy points to quarterbacks and their defense ranges near the back end so Wentz is an excellent start this weekend.
Kirk Cousins vs Detroit Lions
Kirk did a very good job in the stat sheets last weekend against the Seahawks despite the interception and the loss. Now he goes up against a poor Detroit defense that gave up three touchdowns to struggling Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky. It also doesn’t hurt that Cousins torched the Detroit defense once already scoring 29 points in Week Seven.
Baker Mayfield vs Cincinnati Bengals
Mayfield proved me right last weekend as a sit against the Pittsburgh Steelers scoring a poor eight points. Even with his hand and rib issues as of late he is still worth a stream against the Cincinnati Bengals. Aside from Sam Darnold, quarterbacks that face the Bengals have scored ten touchdowns and average of 20 points to home field advantage field generals.
Sam Darnold vs Miami Dolphins
Darnold surprised me last weekend when he put up little points against the Bengals, but honestly it is more based on receivers dropping the ball and not giving him openings rather than his own ability. He gets another try at breaking the Dolphins this weekend who have allowed 29 touchdown passes to enemy quarterbacks.
Ryan Tannehill vs Oakland Raiders
Tannehill has found himself in fantasy renaissance with a new team in the Tennessee Titans. I’m putting him as a streamer this weekend when faces the Oakland Raiders. Their defense has allowed 27 touchdown passes, an average of 275 passing yards and the fourth most fantasy points to quarterbacks since the start of the season.
Jameis Winston vs Indianapolis Colts
Ryan Fitzpatrick vs New York Jets
Kyle Allen vs Atlanta Falcons
Sit of the Week –
Philip Rivers vs Jacksonville Jaguars
While Rivers didn’t do that horribly against the Denver Broncos, but something about a game against the Jaguars doesn’t really make me feel comfortable staring him considering they only have given up eight touchdowns and about 16 fantasy points to quarterbacks. Also take notice that Jacksonville struggles against the run more than the pass so Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler should see more looks than the pass attack.
Matt Ryan vs Carolina Panthers
Ryan has completely struggled this season and it is safe to say that he cannot be trusted for fantasy purposes anymore. I’d bench him this weekend against the Carolina Panthers even though the matchup looks good on paper. The reason being that Ryan hasn’t scored more than 20 fantasy points since week six against the Cardinals. With the playoffs about to start in some leagues, I can’t let people start him knowing he could be the reason they let them down.
Jimmy Garoppolo vs New Orleans Saints
Jimmy didn’t do anything wrong in his matchup against the Ravens, but he didn’t do enough to seal the deal. In an upcoming match against the Saints it doesn’t favor Jimmy G one bit as the Saints defense has only allowed an average of 18 points to quarterbacks. Even if this match goes to a shoot out, it is still a very risky play to start Garoppolo this weekend.
Derek Carr vs Tennessee Titans
Remember when Carr and the Raiders were a favorite to win a spot in the Wild Card for the AFC? Yeah it doesn’t seem very likely now that they have taken back to back losses to the Jets and the Chiefs. It could get a whole lot worse too as he goes up against the Tennessee Titans this weekend. Their defense has only given up six touchdown passes and the fourth fewest points to quarterbacks.
Gardner Minshew vs Los Angeles Chargers
Mustache Minshew Mania is back and it saddens me to put him as a sit this weekend. The Chargers have only allowed less than 14 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and putting the rookie back out against this defense when they just activated Derwin James off of IR isn’t the smartest thing to do especially with playoffs this close.
