Start of the Week –
Jaylen Samuels vs Cincinnati Bengals
It may be hard to look at why any Steelers player would be the start of the week after the garbage performance they put up against the Browns last Thursday, but hear me out here. With Conner continuing to get hurt, Samuels is looking to be the lead back of the Steelers. He is a must start this week as the Bengals are dreadful against the run and have allowed 12 rushing touchdowns on the season as well as the fifth most fantasy points to running backs. Not only that, but he is a huge weapon as a pass-catch back and with JuJu’s status doubtful and Johnson’s up in the air Samuels should see some extra looks that way too.
Todd Gurley vs Baltimore Ravens
Gurley has not been the same touchdown machine as he was last season. However, last weekend against the Bears we got a glimpse of the Gurley of old. The Baltimore matchup looks scary on paper, but with Robert Woods nowhere to be found, Cooks still iffy from concussions and Everett banged up Gurley should receive a lot of looks in the passing game from Goff. Plus some running backs have found decent success against the Ravens such as Carlos Hyde from the Texans who scored last weekend. He’s a risky start, but I am willing to say he does well this week.
Joe Mixon vs Pittsburgh Steelers
Mixon found success yet again against the Raiders last weekend and it is safe to say that Ryan Finley will be relying on him quite a bit in this week’s matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Like Gurley, the matchup looks scary on paper, but with Finley having Mixon run and catch out of the backfield he is a reliable RB2 this weekend against a tough defense, but should receive a lot of looks and plenty of volume.
David Montgomery vs New York Giants
Montgomery has been quiet as of late and the ankle issue probably doesn’t help along with Tarik Cohen’s usage, but he has a decent matchup against the New York Giants this weekend. It may not look like that on paper, but if Trubisky cannot go and Chase Daniels is forced to come in, he may rely on the run game and that is where Montgomery comes in. He is a low end RB2 and a strong flex this weekend against the Giants.
Kareem Hunt vs Miami Dolphins
Hunt did a decent job against the Pittsburgh Steelers last weekend and now he looks to the Miami Dolphins this weekend. While he is stuck playing second fiddle to Nick Chubb there is a double edge sword to that statement. Hunt has outscored Chubb two weeks in a row and I am willing to give him a flex start this weekend against the Dolphins who have surrendered the eighth most fantasy points to opposing running backs. Look for him to make plenty of catches too as that is how he’s been getting his points since he’s returned.
Derrius Guice vs Detroit Lions
Derrick Henry vs Jacksonville Jaguars
Devin Singletary vs Denver Broncos
Sit of the Week –
Sony Michel vs Dallas Cowboys
Michel proved once again that he cannot be reliable in the backfield anymore. He scored a mere six points against the Eagles. As long as Burkhead is in the lineup and healthy Michel’s usage and points will continue to decrease. Even though the Cowboys don’t have the best run defense Michel is very hard to sell as a start, but if you must start him he is a very risky flex play.
Ronald Jones vs Atlanta Falcons
Jones was given the starting job and didn’t have the greatest outing against the Saints last weekend. Last week he scored a mere three fantasy points and his snap count is continuing to decrease. Even Peyton Barber who has been backing up Jones since he was named the starter caught one of Winston’s touchdown passes last weekend. He is a hard one to play this weekend due to his inconsistent usage especially against a reformed Atlanta defense.
Jordan Howard vs Seattle Seahawks
Howard didn’t suit up last weekend due to injury. If he does play I still don’t trust him in this match with the Seahawks who are better stopping on the run rather than the pass. The Eagles running situation is also a mystery, but if Howard can’t go on Sunday, then make sure to put Miles Sanders in who has proven he can catch a lot of passes from Wentz. Howard however is a strong fade for me this weekend regardless of injury or not.
Brian Hill vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Hill was a sleeper for me last weekend and he just couldn’t get anything going against the Panthers. he has another tough matchup at hand against the Buccaneers who can cover a lot better on the ground than through the air. Plus I doubt that the Falcons will run the ball a lot given how poor the Bucs pass defense is in the first place. Put him on the bench.
Kalen Ballage vs Cleveland Browns
Ballage did score a touchdown last weekend, but if he didn’t his fantasy production would have been a huge bust against the Bills. He finished with nine carries for nine yards. That’s one yard per carry. that’s absolutely dreadful. So while the Cleveland defense isn’t all that special right now I still wouldn’t risk your game on Ballage this weekend.
