Unfortunately, the Riverhounds took an early exit out of the USL Championship Playoffs for the second year in a row following a late goal from Louisville FC in the Conference Semi Finals. Even with the hounds out of the playoffs, the year was not a total loss.
The hounds had 4 players nominated for end of the year awards which include Kenardo Forbes for Most Valuable Player, Joe Greenspan for Defender of the Year, Kyle Morton for Goalkeeper of the Year and head coach Bob Lilley for Coach of the Year. This is the second straight year Greenspan and Lilley have been announced as finalists for Defender of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.
Aside from those players and coach being nominated for those respective awards, the hounds also sent 4 players to the Championship All-League Squad. Joe Greenspan and Kenardo Forbes both made the All USL- First Team, while defender Thomas Vancaeyezeele and former Robert Morris standout Neco Brett took home All USL- Second Team selections.
The hounds came off of one their best years in club history, capturing just their second conference/division title in the team’s history (first in 2004), and it seems that “Bob the Builder” Lilley is already excited for next season, and hopeful to build another championship contending squad. But only time will tell as to who will be on the roster next season. On a side note, Open Tryouts for a Riverhounds roster spot are on November 30th!
