Deke’s 2023 NFL Mock Draft 1.0

Despite the title saying “Mock Draft 1.0”, this is basically my 1038984th mock so far this season. The draft offers us something that the regular season often doesn’t…hope. Hope that one guy in the first round can impact a culture. Hope that we can wheel out a more professional offensive line for Kenny Pickett. Hope that the god damn Ravens take another receiver and ruin him.

This years class is a tricky one to say the least. After last year I almost forgot how crazy the top of the draft can get with quality QB prospects. The world, if I do say so myself, is SO much better off when a draft has some blue chip QB prospects.

Let’s address some of the bigger selections below first. The Panthers are an absolute wildcard. We know they will take a QB with that first overall pick and that’s about it. I have no true insight into who they favor although two names are the clear front runners to me. Anthony Richardson went first in this due to his impressive combine numbers and upside, but this easily could be Bryce Young. For me personally, Young offers the complete package to start a franchise with. Richardson on the other hand offers an absolutely enticing glimpse into a Superbowl winning offense. I love Stroud’s tape against Georgia but I dont believe he has a real shot at going #1 just yet.

My Mock 1 winners are the Seattle Seahawks as they benefit greatly from Jalen Carter’s recent slide. The ability to get Carter and Nolan Smith (who I believe will have a massive rise in the coming weeks) instantly help Pete Carroll sleep at nights without fear of a lack of pressure.

The Steelers’ could have easily selected Joey Porter Jr with our pick but Torrence offers us an INSTANT upgrade on that o-line. Paid that with the fact that the corner and receiver class are fairly deep, it just made sense to snag the classes best guard.
