The 2022 NFL Draft has come to an end. It feels weird like when Christmas morning is over and the excitement is all gone, but you still have everything you were excited for right in front of you. It will be weird not doing the Mock Drafts anymore until next year, but now we just have to look forward to the 2022 season. All these rookies that were drafted are gonna get a chance to show their respective teams what they can do.
The question is finally asked though. Who had the best overall draft class from this year? There are a multitude of candidates that deserve the first place spot. However, teams that drafted well last year kind of bit the bullet this year. Sometimes drafting can put pressure on some teams. Let us see who cracked under it and who came away as the rightful winner in this contest.

What in the absolute hell was this draft for the New England Patriots? A team that just a year ago was one of the best teams to come out with a draft class shocks the world here by absolutely sucking in this year’s draft. Let’s start with the Cole Strange pick. Bill pulls this every year as he takes a guy that was in the round three-four range, and he makes him a high level pick. This one was just too “strange” to me. Thornton was a big question for me. He has speed, but that is about it. The Patriots also don’t draft the best receivers so take that as you will. Finally, Bailey Zapp got taken ahead of Sam Howell. Yep that was a thing. By far the worst draft class out of everyone.

I am just so confused here. The Cardinals ended up trading their first round pick to the Ravens in exchange for receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. This was terrible. If Amari Cooper can go for a 6th round pick then how in the absolute hell does Brown go for a first. So dumb on Arizona’s part. They needed to address corner and edge. They addressed edge with Thomas and Sanders. You would have thought they should have taken a corner instead of Trey McBride. How is he going to coexist with Ertz on the field. This was a bad draft by Arizona.

Oh da boys, what are we doing here? Tulsa’s Tyler Smith in the first round is a big question mark because Jermaine Johnson was there for them to take. They needed edge help badly. Instead, they settle for a penalty driven lineman, and draft Sam Williams at edge in the second instead. Williams has some off the field issues so Dallas doesn’t care. Tolbert as the receiver isn’t great either, but Ferguson is okay. Just an overall reach heavy draft for Dallas.

I really like the Dylan Parham and Zamir White selections. White will come in handy since they decided not to give Josh Jacobs the fifth-year option. I also like the addition of Matthew Butler from Tennessee. It wasn’t much though so it kind of has to be graded low in my honest opinion. Decent though.
26.) New Orleans Saints

Alontae Taylor is an interesting one given that there was other talent there so all that put together gives the Saints the position they are in.

The Commanders suffer simply from Snyder is this occasion. The man’s ungodly obsession with Alabama talent comes back again in this draft with the selections of Mathis and Robinson. That entire defensive line is basically all Alabama at this point, it is so frustrating. Dotson was a good pick though. I am excited to see what the kid can do in this offense since he wasn’t a major vocal point at Penn State. Sam Howell also falling to them in the 5th is a steal in case Wentz is a dummy yet again.

The 49ers puzzle me. Really, the only pick out of this entire draft I like is Drake Jackson. Kyle Shanahan can’t stop himself from continuing to draft running backs so we will continue to see who will run the hot hand in San Francisco. Danny Gray out of SMU is a bad pick, I am sorry, but it is. His hands are terrible so you must have confidence in trying to keep Deebo Samuel. Even though he still wants out after the draft. Not a good look.

Chicago really drafted two elite studs on the defensive side of the ball with Washington corner Kyler Gordon and Penn State safety Jaquan Brisker. After that is where things get dicey as they drafted Velus Jones Jr. out of Tennessee. Not sure if they believe Darnell Mooney is going to be the number one there now, but Justin Fields has to be scratching his head at the wideout pick and the Braxton Jones pick as well. They needed to get a better tackle than him to make sure Fields wasn’t running for his life, but oh well I guess.

I felt strongly about Denver’s draft after it was over, but now I stand here second-guessing myself. Bonito wasn’t a bad selection, but in my honest opinion, he was more of a third-round guy. We will see if he can fill in the hole left by Von Miller and help Bradley Chubb out on the defense. Greg Dulcich is a great pick though by the Broncos as they desperately needed to get a tight end after packaging Noah Fant to the Seattle Seahawks. I also like Mathis in the 4th, but yeah I looked back and had to take a double-take on this one.

Say what you want, but Travon Walker became the 1st overall pick in the draft. The best choice should have been to draft Aidan Hutchinson however as he was the better choice. Now if Walker pans out it is huge for them, but he is truly boom or bust with his athleticism. Trading back into the first round to take Devin Lloyd was a great move by them. Luke Fortner should help to rebuild that offensive line a little bit, and also getting a great linebacker in Chad Muma makes us all at TFTB very happy. It would honestly be higher, but the Walker pick kind of drags it down a bit.

The Chargers were like the Broncos in my opinion. I thought they drafted decent, but looking back on it there were some issues I had with it. Zion Johnson was a good pick with his versatility, but is he going to be playing right tackle here? Penning was available for them to take to pair with Rashawn Slater from last year, but I guess they have confidence he will be a better tackle prospect than Penning. Isaiah Spiller is a good pick as he can fill in for Austin Ekeler whenever he gets hurt (don’t worry he will). I do also like the Jamaree Salyer selection out of Georgia. The rest is kind of wishy-washy for me though.

The Bucs didn’t need to do much here, but adding Logan Hall after trading down with Jacksonville was an excellent move. He will most likely fill in for that Suh role. Big win for them there. Cade Otton was also a good selection with the uncertainty of Gronk still in the air. Rachaad White was an interesting pick given how deep the running back room already was. Jake Camarda in the 4th is a head scratcher, but I do also love the Zyon McCollum pick later in the draft. Not bad at all.

The Browns didn’t have a selection until the 2nd round because of the Watson trade, but then they traded back more to collect some picks. Martin Emerson isn’t a bad selection, but you gotta figure they should have gone with a better edge rusher instead of taking Alex Wright ten picks later. David Bell should be a decent pairing with Amari Cooper, but I wasn’t on the David Bell train since watching him play and then watching his combine. Perrion Winfrey offers some upside in the defensive tackle position. What is with these kickers getting taken in the 4th though as Cade York gets selected? Head scratcher for me boys and girls.

Carter is a decent defensive tackle to take, and Cordell Volson offers upside to an offensive line that already looks reestablished.

The Titans come in halfway through this list, and if they didn’t trade away AJ Brown, they would have been higher in my honest opinion. They didn’t want to pay him so they got the cheaper version of him in Treylon Burks. Roger McCreary is a decent corner to grab in the 2nd round. Nicholas Petit-Frere will look to take the reigns from Taylor Lewan soon. However, the additions I am most excited about are Malik Willis in the 3rd round and Hassan Haskins in the 4th. They should be great picks going forward. Linebacker was a position they desperately needed though, and they didn’t grab one until the 7th.

The Vikings were all over the board in this draft man. They traded back 20 spots with the Lions to take Lewis Cine which is a nice move for them. Hands down, the best decision in this draft was taking Andrew Booth in the 2nd round as now they finally have a corner that can help out veteran Patrick Peterson. Ingram, Asamoah, and Evans are also great additions. They played the board well but maybe missed out on some other talent so no big complaints other than that.

The Colts didn’t pick until the 2nd round and started off hot by adding Cincinnati receiver Alec Pierce to pair with Pittman for Matt Ryan to throw to. Not only that, but they grabbed a mammoth of a tight end in Virginia’s Jelani Woods. His athleticism should thrive in big-play moments for the Colts. Raimann sliding to the 3rd helps out the Colts on the offensive line scenario as well as adding Nick Cross in the secondary. However, they needed an edge rusher in this class, and they didn’t pick one up. A little bit of a miss for me.

The Packers almost gave Aaron Rodgers a heart attack with their first-round selections in Quay Walker and Devonte Wyatt. The defense got better although I argue that I don’t know if Walker should have been the guy there. The Packers, however, did draft a great receiver in Christian Watson for Rodgers to hopefully replace Adams. They also picked up two more in Romeo Doubs out of Nevada and Samori Toure out of Nebraska as well as a number of decent offensive linemen. The Walker pick keeps this from being any higher though unfortunately.

The Bills did decent work in the draft this year. I thought trading up for Elam was a bit of a reach, but with McDuffie going two picks prior and Stingley and Sauce going back to back in the top five gave them a bit of urgency I guess. I actually really like the James Cook pick. A guy who can run and catch out of the backfield is surely going to make Josh Allen happy. An underrated pick goes to the receiver out of Boise State; Khalil Shakir. Could be a great slot guy to replace Beasley.

Not gonna lie, I wasn’t super excited to see what Carolina would do in the draft, but they proved me wrong. They went the right route in taking offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu with their first pick. That dude is gonna start a trend in building that offensive line back up. They then traded up using picks from next year in order to get their quarterback in Ole Miss’s Matt Corral. Brandon Smith was also a great move for them to improve that linebacker room.

Not bad for Daboll’s first draft as the Giants’ head coach. He grabs two studs right off the bat in the first round in Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux and Alabama’s Evan Neal. Robinson was a bit of a head-scratcher, but moves were made here. Daniel Bellinger is a great tight end to add since they lost Evan Engram to the Jaguars, and Cordale Flott adds some hope to that secondary that is looking to get rid of James Bradberry. Not bad at all.

The Falcons addressed some major needs for their team here. Drake London is a stud and adding him automatically makes him their number one weapon aside from tight end Kyle Pitts. They also managed to snag defensive studs Arnold Ebiketie and Troy Anderson to build that defense back up. Finally, the cherry on top came when they selected Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder in the 3rd round. He is the best chance to go good in this division knowing that Marcus Mariota isn’t the full-time answer.

Okay Steelers, I see you. Man, was I impressed with this draft compared to last year’s. Knowing this was Colbert’s last year as general manager, he pulled out all the stops to make Pittsburgh take some great picks. Kenny Pickett threw me through a big loop after huge Malik Willis talks. However, after some consideration, I firmly believe we made the right pick in Pickett. Then, we took a stud receiver in Georgia’s George Pickens. The kid is gonna be a freaking stud. I love his aggression and passion for the game. DeMarvin Leal is a huge steal in the 3rd round from Texas A&M. Finally, we grabbed another awesome receiver in Calvin Austin III from Memphis. The kid has Tyreek Hill-level speed, and it makes it even better knowing we swiped him from the Ravens. Connor Heyward, while a great story shouldn’t have been picked. That was my only flaw in this whole draft class. What a draft.

Seattle surprised me here people. They actually drafted well. Charles Cross is an interesting pick given the fact I believe this team will be run first, and he is the best pass blocker. Then you went five great picks in a row. Mafe is an awesome edge rusher. Walker could arguably be the best running back in this class. Lucas is a good tackle to develop. Finally, Bryant and Woolen are a great corner duo that should finally fix that secondary.

The Texans got a ton of stud talent in this draft man. Going from the worst team that drafted last year to being in the top ten is amazing. Stingley was a surprise as three, but if he is healthy he will hit. Green is a good guard despite where he was taken. I could argue he could have been taken later, but oh well. Then they hit on the next four picks. Pitre is an awesome safety coming out of Baylor. Metchie should provide a great balance in the offense other than Brandin Cooks. Harris is a solid linebacker out of Alabama and Dameon Pierce should provide solid stats to a running back room.

The Lions knock it out of the park with their first-round selections in Aidan Hutchinson and Jameson Williams. You had to give up a lot to move up to get Williams, but when he gets healthy, he will be lighting the league on fire. I also love the Josh Pachal and Kerby Joseph picks as well. This team took great selections, and Dan Campbell should be biting the knees of every opponent. Smashing draft for them.

The Eagles gave up a lot in this draft, but I would argue they got so much more back. Starting with trading up and getting Jordan Davis to get into the rotation with Fletcher Cox is a great pick. Then, they traded their second first-round pick to get AJ Brown from the Titans. Couple the fact that they got the second-best center in this class with Cam Jurgens, and the fact that they were able to steal Nakobe Dean in the third round make this a slam dunk draft if the kid can get healthy.

The Chiefs had some needs to fill, and boy did they fill them. Trent McDuffie adds some immediate help to that secondary while George Karlaftis gets down and dirty in the trenches where they desperately needed help. I also really like the Kinnard and Chenal picks, but there is a clear-cut star of this Chiefs draft; Skyy Moore. That kid is going to be the exact replacement they needed to fill in that Tyreek Hill role. The Chiefs did really well in this one man.

Seeing this as a Steelers fan is painful, but it is hard to knock the Ravens in this draft because they dominated man. Trading Marquise Brown for a 1st round pick from Arizona was a huge steal for them. In the first round, they took the two guys that were the best in their positions; Kyle Hamilton and Tyler Linderbaum. Then they grabbed a huge defensive weapon in edge rusher David Ojabo who would have been a 1st round pick had he not gotten hurt. Then, you grab great players in Travis Jones and Daniel Faalele. What a draft for Baltimore.

There was not a better draft class this year than the Jets. They absolutely stole the draft this year man. They got the best corner, the best wideout, one of the best edge rushers, and the best running back in this draft. Some would have even argued Jeremy Ruckert was the second-best tight end in this class. Sauce, Wilson, Johnson, and Breece… Come on man. Is there anything else to say here? Like the Jets just freakin’ killed it guys. The only knock is that I hope Mechi Becton can stay healthy for that offensive line.
