Deke’s Mock Draft 1.0

What a glorious day to be alive. I bet come draft day, I get at least one of these correct.

Jacksonville JaguarsTrevor Lawrence (QB / Clemson) – Trevor Lawrence has been the first overall selection in his draft class since the stud took over at Clemson, so is it really a shock to see the Jaguars giddy with joy? Don’t get me wrong the boys at TFTB love us some Gardner, but T-Law is a stud. Sharpie this one in.
New York JetsJustin Fields (QB / Ohio State) – I don’t fault anyone who doesn’t have Fields going at two, but it just makes too much sense to me. Darnold hasn’t gotten a fair shot at the starting job in NY but Fields is just too promising to pass up here. Trade Darnold for some pieces and start all over.
Miami DolpinsDeVonta Smith (WR / Alabama) – I don’t normally try and speak things into existance, but I would love to see Smith in Miami with Tua. The Dolphins were reat this year barely missing the playoffs and yet here they are with the third overall pick. The Dolphins don’t need too much to keep the momentum going but a top tier talent like Smith could mean the world for this offense.
Atlanta FalconsZach Wilson (QB / BYU) – It honestly all depends who the next head coach of the Falcons is, but Zach Wilson is the exact type of quarterback the Flacons need right now. Wilson did a lot to raise his draft stock at BYU and should have scouts excited for his upside. Sit him behind Matty Ice for a year or two and then let the kid loose.
Cincinnati BengalsPenei Sewell (OT / Oregon) – The Bengals winning games to lose their best option is just so Cincy, but with a run on skill position players early the best tackle in the draft falls. If the Bengals want to protect Joe Burrow and not ruin another top tier talent, fix the line. Come on Keaton.
Philadelphia EaglesMicah Parsons (LB / Penn State) – Honestly, the Eagles need almost every position fixed right about now. Injuries to their O-line and a lack of skill position players should probably stand out here, but how can you honestly pass up on a talent like Parsons. Fix the D, win a troph…y. There’s something there.
Detroit LionsJaMarr Chase (WR / LSU) – The Detorit Lions also sit in coach / GM limbo currently, but one thing they just can’t avoid is the lack of receivers if Kenny G leaves this offseason. Marvin Jones has been stellar in the second half of the year, but let’s get Stafford some additional talent out there with arguably the top receiver in the class.
Carolina PanthersPatrick Surtain II (CB / Alabama) – Surtain is the best corner in this class, badaboom. The Panthers have a few issues, but building that defense needs to happen. If Parsons isn’t here at this spot, Surtain is just as important to this defence.
Denver BroncosCaleb Farley (CB / Virginia Tech) – Farley isn’t too far behind Surtain that this is a massive reach, but the Denver Broncos need to match the energy they’ve given their offense on their defense. Von Miller returns next year and providing him with secondary help is crucial.
Dallas CowboysChristian Darrisaw (OT / Virginia Tech) – The Cowboys in this magical pretend scenario do sign and keep Dak Prescott just for the record. I honestly have no clue if the Cowboys will sign Dak to a long term deal, but that line finally needs some work. Darrisaw has been on the rise lately and in a draft where we aren’t fully sure who is the best behind Sewell, Darrisaw is a name to remember if the Cowboys want Zeke to flourish again.
New York GiantsGregory Rousseau (Edge, Florida) – Honestly, I have no idea what the Giants need because I don’t know what they have. I would love to toss some O-Line help here, but they need help all over. Rousseau is a high end draftpick in this class and elected to sit out the 2020 season due to the COVID concerns. This is an instant starter for the Lions at a position of need.
San Francisco 49ersRashawn Slater (OT, Northwestern) – O-Line, O-Line, O-Line. protect your quarterback man. I don’t know if Jimmy G is “it”, but I do know he needs better protection. I think this defense will be fine in the 21-22 season based on the injuries they saw so sure up the line.
Los Angeles ChargersJaycee Horn (CB, South Carolina) – The Chargers just fired head coach Anthony Lynn today so who knows the direction this franchise takes. This defense is extremely talented, but lets add in some talent to avoid injuries. Horn isn’t quite on the same level as the top tier DB’s in this class, but he is a solid starter with some athletic upside.
Minnesota VikingsJalen Mayfield (OT, Michigan) A lot of information about this class will come out closer to draft day as COVID basically ruined multiple peoples careers, but you can never go wrong with the O-Line. The Vikings found themselves a gem in Justin Jefferson and Dalvin Cook had a career year so gradding some line depth just makes too much sense.
New England PatriotsTrey Lance (QB, North Dakota State) Man, who would have thought the New England Patriots and Cam Newton would have ended so terribly? I understand that Jarrett Stidham still hasn’t gotten a “real” shot at the starting job but we can all agree that Trey Lance is showcasing some serious upside. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of Mocks having Alabama/s Mac Jones here because of Lance’s one game played this year, but give me the chaos early.
Arizona CardinalsKwity Paye (Edge, Michigan) I have honestly no effing clue what went wrong (if anything did) for Isaiah Simmons in Arizona. That defense was better this year than past but Baker isn’t winning you games by yourself. I’m a big fan of what Riddick did for the Cardinals this season, but adding an edge rusher like Paye can instantly boost the Card’s defense.
Las Vegas RaidersJoseph Ossai (Edge, Texas) – For some reason, Jon Gruden saying “edge rushers are had to get” after trading away Khalil Mack will forever haunt me. The Raiders seem so middle of the pack for the rest of time despite two quality games against the Champs but adding an all-american defensive beast here is never a bad take. I really condisered Mac Jones here but if you have Carr, how can you love Jones?
Miami DolphinsJeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (LB, Notre Dame) Owusu-Koramoah is the absolute stud pick for the Dolphins if he falls this far. It’s not often a linebacker comes out with this quickness and ability to cover the entire field. I love this Dolphins defense and this kid will fit in instantly.
Washington Football TeamSamuel Cosmi (OT, Texas) In all seriousness I have no clue how the tackles in this class are going to weigh out as this is one of the best lineman drafts we’ve seen in a while, but the WFT needs to fix up that O-Line. They also need a lot of other crap, but this is a key step to continue this franchises success.
Chicago BearsAlijah Vera-Tucker (IOL, USC) Man…I have no clue what the Bears are going to do. I think Mitch has proven he can be a decent QB in the right system and although a receiver makes some sense here, I love the dept in this draft for that position. Let’s get some big boys up front so that David Montgomery can be a top 5 back like I (awkwardly) projected in his rookie year.
Jacksonville JaguarsKyle Pitts (TE, Florida) Pitts is an enigma to me, mainly because I think teams will consider him a MUCH higher selection come draft time. He’s been placed in the top 5 in terms of talent in this class and the Jaguars NEED playmakers. Let’s get Trevor Lawrence his new best friend from day 1.
Indianapolis ColtsJaylen Waddle (WR, Alabama) I think there’s a high probability that Waddle gets taken before this spot but I love the thought of the Colts snagging another playmaker. I was HIGH as can be on T.Y. in the offseason and although it took way too long, it finally looked like Ol’ Steely Phil and him had some connection. I don’t know how much longer Phil plays but that defense needs an offense, and Waddle is top tier.
Cleveland BrownsDylan Moses (LB, Alabama) – The Browns. Man. They need some shit huh. But one position they absolutely need is LB and Dylan Moses is a beast. I thought about a few positions here including corner but I do believe Greedy Williams will one day be a decent player, so let’s sure up that line backer core with a dog.
Tennessee TitansDaviyon Nixon (DT, Iowa) Is there anything that makes more sense than the Titans drafiting a defensive lineman? The Titans were unable to get more than 4 sacks against a pathetic Texan’s O-Line, so adding some pressure is a must and Nixon has all the tools to be an instant impact player.
Tampa Bay BuccaneersTravis Etienne (RB, Clemson) There’s a big mix about who the best back in this draft class is between Harris and Etienne, but I have loved this kid for two years now. The Bucs have ROJO ( I know Dre, you love him) but the running back position was a big issue this season. I don’t really think they take a RB here, but with 4net and Rojo being meh why not get Brady a shiny new toy.
Baltimore RavensRashod Bateman (WR, Minnesota) – The Ravens took Marquise Brown in the 2019 draft but haven’t been able to really use him to the best of his ability, which is partly Brown’s fault due to drops and the team’s scheme as a whole. The Ravens really need a true #1 receiver and although Bateman isn’t being talked about as top tier, he sure as hell is.
New York JetsNajee Harris (RB, Alabama) Honestly, who knows what the Jets do. I would love to pair Harris with Fields and walk away loving the Jets day one selections, but we have absolutely no idea how this dumb franchise will behave moving forward. One thing we do know is the Jets need a back, and Harris is a first round back. Easy peasy,
Pittsburgh SteelersWyatt Davis (IOL, Ohio State) – With both of the top tier backs off of the board, we need to address this O-Line now. I’ve seen a few mocks entertain Mac Jones in this spot which I don’t “hate”, but if we really think Ben plays a few more years that line needs help. Davis is arguably the best inside lineman in this draft and could be an instant starter. I want a running back, but I’ll be happy with a lineman here.
New Orleans SaintsZaven Collins (LB, Tulsa) The Saints are a team of riches and adding Collins here is just fun money. I’m sure we’ll get a better idea of what exactly the Saints need come draft time but for now, talent talent talent. I think Collins finds fimself in the top 25 come the draft.
Buffalo BillsKadarius Toney (WR, Florida) I know that Stefon Diggs just came off the best season of his career (and a lot of players careers for that matter) but something about the Bills pass attack just tells me more weapons is never a bad thing. Again, I doubt this is the selection come draft time but with all of Josh Allen’s improvements this season, adding another top tier weapon could send this team into (dare I say) Chiefs territory.
Green Bay PackersTerrace Marshall Jr. (WR, LSU) Will the Packers ever get A A Ron the help he needs? Doubtful, but I am a massive fan of Marshall Jr. Adams has been a consistent top 3 receiver for years, but watching Rogers basically make touchdowns out of nothing has been so frustrating to watch. GET. HIM. SOME. HELP.
Kansas City ChiefsLiam Eichenberg (OT, Notre Dame) What do you get the richest man on planet earth as a gift? Protection to protect his rich things of course! The Defenese of the Chiefs could be the target here, but let’s protect that 500 million dollar toy under center with Eichenberg.
