Moorhead’s NFL Power Rankings – Week 5

#32

New York Jets (0-4)

Previous Rank – 32

It’s pretty bad when your team loses to a team that is starting their third quarterback. This Jets team has given up. Soon Gase will be gone, maybe they will trade away Darnold and get the number one pick which we assume is going to be Trevor Lawrence, but who knows. This was supposed to be a game where the Jets would win. They lose again, and they will face the Cardinals this week.

#31

New York Giants (0-4)

Previous Rank – 31

The Giants fail to win their first game against the Rams, and it was a pretty boring showing to be honest. Daniel Jones is sliding down peoples’ radars, and it’s hard to argue why because this team without Barkley stinks. Personally, Devonta Freeman should ease more into the offense as time goes on, but I doubt it happens this week against the Cowboys.

#30

Jacksonville Jaguars (1-3)

Previous Rank – 29

Jacksonville falls a spot after they gave up a win to the Bengals last weekend. Their rushing defense was atrocious as Joe Mixon ran wild on them. The offense of Jacksonville wasn’t terrible, but giving up a win against a winless team always doesn’t look good. Minshew and the Jaguars will look to face the winless Texans.

#29

Denver Broncos (1-3)

Previous Rank – 30

Denver gets its first win of the season, but they barely won it and it is against the Jets. I’ll move them up because of the win, but it was barely one at that with a lot of offensive and defensive mistakes. The Broncos will face the New England Patriots this weekend coming off a loss to the Chiefs.

#28

Atlanta Falcons (0-4)

Previous Rank – 28

Hard to believe the Falcons are 0-4, but honestly their defense is so bad. Along with that and poor choices, they just can’t seem to get it together. They got thrashed by Green Bay, and their defense held Calvin Ridley to without a catch. Julio Jones is also being decimated by a hamstring injury. We will see if things can get better when the Falcons take on the Panthers.

#27

Houston Texans (0-4)

Previous Rank – 19

A little sooner than expected, but the Texans fired Bill O’Brien yesterday after they took a loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The Texans are now 0-4 on the season, and are now without a head coach and general manager, they don’t have their first or second round draft picks, and of course don’t have DeAndre Hopkins. Hopefully, they can go up from here, but honestly who knows. They’ll face the Jacksonville Jaguars this week.

#26

Miami Dolphins (1-3)

Previous Rank – 21

Miami takes a hard loss this week against the Seahawks, and Ryan Fitzpatrick certainly did not look like he brought his magic back for this week as he threw two interceptions against a very suspect secondary. It was still close, but Miami fans have to start wondering when should Tua go in? Maybe the question will be answered this week against the San Francisco 49ers.

#25

Washington Football Team (1-3)

Previous Rank – 22

The Washington Football Team takes a loss to the Baltimore Ravens last weekend. It was expected, but Washington did look good in the form of Dwayne Haskins, Antonio Gibson, and Terry McLaurin. It was a lot of garbage time moves, but still good to say the least. They’ll look to get their second win against the Rams.

#24

Los Angeles Chargers (1-3)

Previous Rank – 24

The Chargers yet again don’t move down after their loss to the Tampa bay Buccaneers. They were really close, and honestly Justin Herbert played out of his mind. The defense just came up short. The loss of Austin Ekeler is a huge one, but they didn’t need him that much in this one. We will see if Herbert can keep this going to finally win another game. They’ll take on the Saints Monday night.

#23

Cincinnati Bengals (1-2-1)

Previous Rank – 27

That’s right people. I am moving the Bengals up four spots after their first win of the 2020 season. They beat the Jacksonville Jaguars and they beat them hard. The defense wasn’t that great, but Joe Burrow and Joe Mixon balled out on this Jaguars team. Let us see if they can continue when they face a divisional opponent in the Baltimore Ravens.

#22

Detroit Lions (1-3)

Previous Rank – 20

The Lions had a chance to knock off the Saints, but they fell instead. Their defense was no match for Drew Brees. The defense of the Lions just keeps getting worse. The problem is Matt Patricia is a defensive coach, and the defense is playing like shit. I predict he’ll be gone by the end of the season. Luckily we won’t get to see how bad they play this week because they are on their bye week.

#21

Minnesota Vikings (1-3)

Previous Rank – 25

Minnesota might not need to rely on Kirk Cousins when it has weapons like Dalvin Cook, Adam Thielen, and Justin Jefferson. Cousins is merely the glue that holds everything together. They carved up the Texans and got their first win of the season. Now they will look to add to that with a date with the undefeated Seattle Seahawks.

#20

Dallas Cowboys (1-3)

Previous Rank – 14

Dallas is awful, but it is not because of Dak Prescott who seems to always be the person everyone is pointing for failure. Tell me how it is his fault when he threw for over 500 yards and four touchdowns. Jerry Jones you’re an ass. Mike McCarthy, you suck. Dallas defense, you suck. Wake up and fix the real problem if you hope to solve anything. They’ll go up against the New York Giants this week.

#19

Philadelphia Eagles (1-2-1)

Previous Rank – 26

It was an ugly one, but Philly got it done with their first win of the season against the 49ers last weekend. Carson Wentz surprisingly did fairly well with yet again another depleted receiver core. It is disgusting to say, but with their record of 1-2-1, they are leading their division. Absolutely gross, but they’ll look to fight for another win in the battle of Pennsylvania when the Eagles take on the Steelers this week.

#18

Las Vegas Raiders (2-2)

Previous Rank – 17

You gotta start feeling some sympathy for Derek Carr man. He is playing great football, but at some points it just doesn’t work out. That was the case when they played the Buffalo Bills. It was a tight score, but the defense had its issues as they couldn’t stop Josh Allen. They’ll look to get their third win when the Raiders face the Kansas City Chiefs this week.

#17

San Francisco 49ers (2-2)

Previous Rank – 15

Jesus George Kittle wow… That game for him was incredible, but for everyone else not so much as the team dropped a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and they are now 2-2 on the year. Injuries have plagued this team from the start, but they’ll look to push on when they take on the Miami Dolphins.

#16

Arizona Cardinals (2-2)

Previous Rank – 9

Arizona has played some weird football these past two weeks dropping losses to the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers. This one just seemed out of order as Kyler Murray threw three touchdown passes, but struggled in passing yards with less than 200 on the day. They can’t let this division get away from them, and they should have an easy opportunity as their opponents this week are none other than the New York Jets.

#15

Carolina Panthers (2-2)

Previous Rank – 23

The Panthers have sure shocked me this season as they are one win away from reaching my prediction of their record. They played great football against the Cardinals. Bridgewater has really started to come alive in this offense even without Christian McCaffrey, and that is always a plus. This week they’ll look for win number three against the winless Atlanta Falcons.

#14

New England Patriots (2-2)

Previous Rank – 10

This might seem like a harsh drop for the Pats being they played the Chiefs, lost to them, and were without Cam Newton because of COVID, but to me this was a very bad game for them. This defense had Mahomes originally, but let him slip away later on. The offense wasn’t doing great, but kept Patty on the sidelines. Stupid plays occurred, and because of those New England lands an ugly loss. They’ll have a better shot this weekend when they take on the Denver Broncos.

#13

Chicago Bears (3-1)

Previous Rank – 12

Nick Foles couldn’t get the win in his starting debut with the Bears against the Colts. I don’t blame him a lot here. This defense is starting to splurge on exploiting quarterbacks. They do drop one point and their first loss of the season. I believe in Foles and what he can do. He just needs a better matchup. I don’t know if that is what he is going to find against Tampa Bay this week.

#12

Cleveland Browns (3-1)

Previous Rank – 18

Well Cleveland did the unthinkable. They beat the Cowboys, and put 49 points on them. A big reason why? Odell is back baby. He caught two touchdown passes, one from Landry and one from Baker. He also ran one in a ridiculous blown play. The Browns did lose Chubb however, and it will be up to Kareem Hunt to get the job done now. They’ll take on the Colts this weekend.

#11

Indianapolis Colts (3-1)

Previous Rank – 16

The offense didn’t need to do much here aside from cashing in on some opportunities. This was a defensive battle, and the better defense won this game with the Colts fighting off Nick Foles. The Colts continue to rely on defense and run game with Rivers throwing when needed. They’ll look to incorporate that game plan again with a match against the Cleveland Browns.

#10

New Orleans Saints (2-2)

Previous Rank – 13

The Saints came back full throttle and knocked the Lions off the map with a big win. They did it without Michael Thomas too as Drew Brees was able to find Smith for two TD’s. Kamara and Murray have a strong run combo going, and they got this win with a big part of their defense out. They’ll look for another win when they face the Chargers this Monday.

#9

Los Angeles Rams (3-1)

Previous Rank – 11

The Rams are quietly looking like their old selves again. This was a weird game though. Low scoring, and some odd play calling and choices made, but the important thing is here that the Rams go the victory, and are second in their division. With all the drama between Golden Tate and Jalen Ramsey, it almost made me forget that they face the Washington Football Team this weekend. Can the offensive line holdout on that Washington front seven.

#8

Tennessee Titans (3-0)

Previous Rank – 6

Tennessee, you just had to get COVID didn’t you? 20 Tennessee Titan individuals ended up testing positive, and the game between them and the Steelers had to be postponed until Week 7. They suck, I am mad at them. if they play this week, they’ll go up against the Buffalo Bills.

#7

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1)

Previous Rank – 8

The Bucs almost made me give up on their success, but then I remembered Tom Brady plays good football. Even without Chris Godwin, and having a banged up receiving core, Brady threw for five touchdowns against the Chargers. Granted their defense is a little depleted otherwise this would be a bit higher. Brady and the Bucs will look to a short week when they take on the Chicago Bears this Thursday night.

#6

Pittsburgh Steelers (3-0)

Previous Rank – 6

Pittsburgh should have beaten Tennessee this past weekend, but the Titans decided to get COVID and screw up the schedule. The Steelers went on a bye after beating the Texans, and now will have to play 13 straight games. With this, they will host the Philadelphia Eagles.

#5

Baltimore Ravens (3-1)

Previous Rank – 3

Baltimore unfortunately drops down two spots even with a win over Washington last weekend? Why you may ask? So far, I have been impressed with how other teams have played. The Ravens have won against bad teams; Cleveland, Houston, and Washington. Their one loss was to the Chiefs. I wanna see what happens when Baltimore starts playing good teams. That won’t happen this weekend when they take on Cincinnati.

#4

Buffalo Bills (4-0)

Previous Rank – 4

The Bills get another win and stay undefeated after their win over the Raiders. It was a tough one, but they got it done. Buffalo and Josh Allen have been on a roll, and just can’t seem to be stopped. This will be an interesting matchup this weekend when they go up against the hopefully healthy and COVID free Tennessee Titans.

#3

Seattle Seahawks (4-0)

Previous Rank – 2

Seattle drops a spot in the rankings despite winning against Miami. The reason being that they simply underperformed to the other two teams above. Russell Wilson is still playing amazing football, and I can’t wait to see what he continues to do this season. They’ll face the Minnesota Vikings this week.

#2

Green Bay Packers (4-0)

Previous Rank – 5

Green Bay is playing on a totally different level right now. More importantly Aaron Rodgers is playing on a different level right now. The fire is lit under Rodgers as they decimated the Falcons on both sides of the ball. The Packers unfortunately, do not have a game this week as they will be on bye.

#1

Kansas City Chiefs (4-0)

Previous Rank – 1

Kansas City demolished New England. Granted things might have been different if Cam Newton didn’t have COVID, but that wasn’t the case. The offense struggled at the start, but found its formula later in the game along with some impressive defense structures as well. The Chiefs are on a roll, and will now look to keep their undefeated streak going with a win over the Raiders this weekend.
