Look, before I get into this I want to make one thing straight, I’ve seen a lot of Adam Sandler movies.
Like most people, at one point in my childhood I could recite Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds and the Water Boy word for word. I loved Adam Sandler but after the type of movies he’s done lately, like Pixels and a few others, I lost interest in the Sandman. And who didn’t, everyone knew he was capable of greatness but he spent his time doing some pretty, excuse my french, shitty movies.
So, when I saw the trailer for Uncut Gems, his latest movie, I got really f**king excited. I mean look at it.
Kevin Garnett, The Weekend, Jewelry, Betting, Gangsters, this movie HAS IT ALL. So I went and saw it and it was pretty good, I mean I’d probably give it a 7.8 on a scale of 1-10.
I was a little disappointed in the movie as a whole for how much it was played up. There were a few slow parts, but most of the movie was pure chaos, It was crazy. One thing I wasn’t disappointed in was ADAM “Sandman” Sandler.
We’ve all seen him in the comedic funny role where he’s cracking jokes and making people laugh. But his role as Howard Ratner, a charismatic New York City jeweler who is always on the lookout for the next big score, is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.
The storyline is pretty much this, Ratner gets a really rare opal and KG thinks it gives him super powers so Ratner loans it out to him. Most of the movie follows Ratner as he tries to get the opal back while he juggles a bunch of other things like a failing marriage, a hoe of a girlfriend/employee, and being a degenerate gambler. But I don’t want to spoil it for you.
It was a great performance, I loved it, he was awesome, he was phenomenal, he was fantastic.
Which is why I was so infuriated when I found out he didn’t receive an Oscar nomination. ADAM SANDLER GOT SCREWED. I mean look at the other nominations for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
I can understand Leo, I can understand Joaquin, I can’t understand WHY ADAM SANDLER ISN’T ON THIS LIST!!! It was one of the best performances of his career and Sandler got robbed.
He also received a bunch of support, especially from the most important lady in his life. “MAMA”
Now this is the scary part. Leading up to the release of Uncut Gems, Sandler said that if he didn’t get a Oscar Nomination he would make a movie that was so bad on purpose.
So what will happen next? Well, I guess we’ll have to wait and see. But I’m sure Sandler will be laughing at the end of it.
