Alex Morgan is arguably one of the best women’s soccer players to grace the pitch for the stars and stripes, and last November, she announced that she is expecting a baby girl to be born in April 2020, less than 4 months before the start of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Some people may wonder, is it possible for a professional soccer player to return to action that soon after having a child? And the answer is a definitive yes.
Former US Women’s National Team teammate Sydney Leroux did the same thing just last year, just 3 months after going into labor, and returned to the pitch to play for her club, the Orlando Pride. She was training with the team up until she was 5 months pregnant and then was able to resume training just 5 weeks after giving birth.
After winning a 2019 World Cup and being co-captain for the national team, it is amazing to see the level of commitment she has for making such a quick return, and being part of another (hopefully) winning squad. When looking back at Sydney Leroux who set the bar pretty high when it comes to making such a quick return to professional soccer, Morgan is trying to her best to get back into action as quickly as possible.
Needless to say, my girl still got it! But ultimately time will tell if we will see Alex Morgan back on the field by the time the Olympic Games start on July 24th.
