Start of the Week –
Matt Ryan vs Arizona Cardinals
Matt Ryan has been less than average this season, but he has the chance to finally get out of the slump he is in with a nice matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. They are not good against opposing quarterbacks. In fact since the season began the Cardinals relinquish an average of 23 points a game to the position. Expect Ryan and Jones to do extremely well in this game.
Kyler Murray vs Atlanta Falcons
Speaking of the Cardinals, Kyler Murray again finds himself on my starts list. I was half right last week when I listed Murray on my start’ em list. He did score on the ground, but I am really disappointed he didn’t throw a passing touchdown. As it stands, Murray has thrown for over 1,300 yards, four touchdowns and four picks. He also has 206 rushing yards with two rushing touchdowns. Look for him to have another excellent week this week against a Falcons team that just yielded over 400 yards and five touchdowns to Deshaun Watson.
Dak Prescott vs New York Jets
Prescott had a bit of a slump last week in the stats, but still did decent in fantasy production. He threw for 463 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Still with that not so great stat line, he still put up over 26 fantasy points. I am keeping him in the starts this week against a Jets team that has been awful this season.
Lamar Jackson vs Cincinnati Bengals
Lamar Jackson’s value in fantasy as taken a dip recently due to the uprise in his competition. He wasn’t too impressive last week against Pittsburgh either as he threw for 161 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions and ran for 70 yards. I expect him to rebound this week though against the Bengals who have one of the worst defenses in the NFL today.
Jimmy Garappolo vs Los Angeles Rams
Don’t look now, but the 49ers are 4-0 and are off to their best start in years. While the defense is the story of this uprise, Jimmy G hasn’t been that bad either. This week he gets a Rams defense that to me has been exposed and I have a feeling he will take an advantage over that by targeting the areas around where Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib are covering as they have been less than impressive lately.
Gardner Minshew vs New Orleans Saints
Kirk Cousins vs Philadelphia Eagles
Andy Dalton vs Baltimore Ravens
Sit of the Week –
Jared Goff vs San Francisco 49ers
I get it. You have to start Goff. I also get that he played fairly well against the Seahawks last week. Unfortunately, with Gurley being day to day, Goff will have to pass more and when that happens he makes more mistakes. The 49ers defense also torched Mayfield last week and held him to 100 passing yards and two interceptions. This 49ers defense is real so just to be safe avoid Goff.
Baker Mayfield vs Seattle Seahawks
Are we seeing the unraveling of Baker Mayfield. Baker had his worst game to date last week against the 49ers throwing for 100 yards, two interceptions and a fumble. He has now twice as many interceptions as he has touchdowns and has become incredibly inaccurate. He has a chance at redemption at Seattle this week, but to be safe I just wouldn’t risk it.
Daniel Jones vs New England Patriots
Jones had a predictably bad game against the Minnesota Vikings last week. I see things only getting worse for the rookie as he goes against a Patriots defense tonight that is one of the best in the NFL. The Patriots always had trouble with Eli Manning, but against Daniel Jones will be a much easier matchup in my mind.
Philip Rivers vs Pittsburgh Steelers
Philip Rivers had a terrible game last week against an awful Broncos defense throwing no touchdowns and two interceptions. This week he has a Pittsburgh defense that has revitalized itself back to the Steel Curtain days. They picked off Lamar Jackson three times and had five sacks. Rivers will be under pressure and if you have to start him, do so with extreme caution.
Sam Darnold vs Dallas Cowboys
Darnold has finally been cleared to compete after his health was detrimental. However, his first game back in action is against the Cowboys who have been fairly well against the pass and the run. The Jets should do much better with Darnold as their quarterback, but it is still a risk to start Sam right out of the gate. I would wait a week before putting him in your lineups.
