Another week of football in the books so now we look to the rankings for week four. Buckle up cause here we go!
Miami Dolphins (0-3)
Previous Rank: 32
The Dolphins almost had us there with holding the Cowboys to 10 points at the end of the first half. However, they showed their true colors as always by not wanting to win and let many more points go on the board with the final score being 31-6. Rosen starting is a good sign, but ultimately this team is garbage. They will look to take another loss this week when they host the Chargers.
New York Jets (0-3)
Previous Rank: 30
The Jets continue to fall down in the rankings after their brutal loss to division rival New England. The points they did score were a little weird as their offense and defense got crushed this week. Luckily they have a bye week this week which means they technically can’t lose to anyone.
Washington Redskins (0-3)
Previous Rank: 28
Yikes this was an ugly one for Case Keenum even if he did score two touchdowns. Their opponent; the Bears were in complete control of this game and that puts Washington down two spots. Keenum struggled hard in this one having three interceptions and multiple fumbles. This week they get the Giants who may have just found their quarterback of the future with Daniel Jones coming off of a monster four touchdown performance.
Cincinnati Bengals (0-3)
Previous Rank: 29
The Bengals stay where they were a week ago even after a loss to the Bills. Andy Dalton struggled hard at the beginning with barely making a pass completion. Their defense also struggled against the rushing and passing of opposing quarterback Josh Allen. However, as time went on they capitalized on mistakes, caused turnovers and scored touchdowns when needed. They still lost, but they’ve come close in two out of their three games. They get a vulnerable 0-3 Steelers team this week, but I have a hunch Andy will be under pressure quite a bit in this game.
Denver Broncos (0-3)
Previous Rank: 25
The Broncos drop three spots after their loss to the Green Bay Packers. The offense and defense are struggling a lot as of late dropping their third straight loss. This time the highlights came out of the run game in particularly Phillip Lindsay. However, Joe Flacco did not do well in this game turning over the ball twice on an interception and a fumble. To quote Emmanuel Sanders; “They are living in a world of suck”. They will look to turn that around this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars who have found a new quarterback in stud Gardner Minshew.
Arizona Cardinals (0-2-1)
Previous Rank: 26
The Cardinals drop a spot this week after their loss to the Carolina Panthers. I personally would drop them more, but in my mind even though the Cardinals haven’t been great they could beat all the other teams below them. With that being said, they didn’t look good this week. They let a back up quarterback in Kyle Allen score four touchdowns against them. Kyler looked alright, but still not at the level I want him at. This week they get Seattle, but if Russell Wilson plays like he did last week, Arizona is in for a world of hurt.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-2)
Previous Rank: 27
The Bucs move up a spot even though they lost to the Giants last week. The reason being is that Jameis Winston actually looked good here posting 380 yards with three touchdowns and one pick. Mike Evans actually got the ball a lot which helped their offense in my mind. Their defense has some work to do, but this could be a step in the right direction aside from the result of the loss. They would have also won if their kicker made the winning field goal so there is that. This week they get the Rams which might not bold well for them.
New York Giants (1-2)
Previous Rank: 31
That’s right I moved the Giants up six spots after this win. I can’t believe I am saying this, but man Daniel Jones looked good in this game with a four touchdown performance. With Saquon Barkley gone from the game because of a high ankle sprain Jones took to his receivers and tight end to win this game. He also became the lead rusher on the ground as well adding a sense of mobility to the quarterback position in New York that has been lacking for quite a while. Their defense is still trash and needs work in order to win games. This week they get the Redskins and possibly a win again against their division rival.
Oakland Raiders (1-2)
Previous Rank: 24
The Raiders right now stay at the number twenty four after their loss to the Vikings last week. The one bright star that came out of this was the continued production and value of new tight end Darren Waller. He continues to flourish in Oakland and is probably a must start from here on out. However, everyone else pretty much stunk. I feel like Josh Jacobs could do better there, but they get so down so early it is hard to use him. This week they get the Colts who are on a roll after beating the Titans and the Falcons back to back.
Pittsburgh Steelers (0-3)
Previous Rank: 19
The Steelers drop four spots and possibly the lowest ranking I have ever given them thus far after a disappointing performance against the San Francisco 49ers. The defense did well in the turnover department turning the ball over five times. However, they were only able to get two field goals out of those turnovers which in my mind is unacceptable. Their coverage was still garbage though which is always frustrating. The offense was not great either until the last moments of the game. I don’t blame Mason entirely as play calling looked very conservative to comfort Mason in his first NFL start. James Conner also coughed up a fumble which gave up the momentum they had gained earlier. This week they get the Bengals and if they can’t beat them I don’t know what to do as a Steelers fan.
Cleveland Browns (1-2)
Previous Rank: 20
The Cleveland Browns drop two spots after losing to the Los Angeles Rams last weekend. The team itself did not look bad as this was more of a defensive battle between the two squadrons. However, Baker Mayfield looked less than impressive tossing for less than 200 yard with a touchdown and another interception. Right now he has more turnovers than scores and that is never a good sign. They get the Ravens this week which might lead to an impressive divisional showdown in the AFC North.
Tennessee Titans (1-2)
Previous Rank: 18
The Titans drop three spots after suffering defeat to the Jaguars last Thursday night. This team had one good week against the Browns in week one, but has since been lackluster in opportunities in the following weeks. The offensive line couldn’t guard anything as they let Marcus Mariota get sacked nine times by the Jacksonville front. The offensive weapons weren’t really used aside from Derrick Henry and Adam Humphries who finally had a decent game. Mariota looks less than impressive as usual and will look to try to turn it around this week against Atlanta.
Carolina Panthers (1-2)
Previous Rank: 21
The Panthers clawed their way to victory over the Arizona Cardinals last week and they did it without Cam Newton. Back up Kyle Allen torched this sloppy Arizona defense with four touchdowns, Christian McCaffrey had 153 yards on the ground with a rushing touchdown and Greg Olsen’s career has been revived to say the least with himself catching two of Allen’s four touchdown passes. The defense could still use some work and with Cam Newton maybe out for a while with another injury it will remain to see if Allen can keep going on this momentum ride he has. This week they get the Texans who doing well so far in the NFL with a 2-1 record.
Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2)
Previous Rank: 22
Call me crazy for moving them up three spots, but man I love this Gardner Minshew kid, mustache and all. He looked very good in this game tossing his two touchdown passes in the first quarter. After that it was just about keeping a little bit ahead from the Titans and playing it smart. The defense stepped up their game with nine sacks on Mariota and even with Jalen Ramsey basically holding out until he is traded, this team has done very well so far. This week they go up against a struggling Broncos team which could lead them to their second victory of the season.
Atlanta Falcons (1-2)
Previous Rank: 12
Let’s be honest maybe I had the Falcons a little too high because honestly I love Julio Jones. Matt Ryan didn’t look bad in this game with three touchdowns and over 300 passing yards, but he still tossed another interception and currently leads the league in interceptions. They finally got Devonta Freeman moving, but he still didn’t crack 100 yards rushing yet this season. The defense did not look good as they let Jacoby Brissett toss two touchdowns and over 300 yards passing and allowed Marlon Mack to get 74 yards on the ground with a rushing score. Things have been a little sour in Atlanta thus far and this week they get the Titans which should help boost the Falcons to 2-2 depending on how the defense plays.
Detroit Lions (2-0-1)
Previous Rank: 23
Alright what is going on with the Lions?? They beat out two superior teams in the Chargers and the Eagles after coming away with a tie against the Cardinals week one. Not sure what has gotten into them, but they move six spots up the ranking because of it. The defense has stepped up, Stafford doesn’t look great, but is doing what he needs to do to survive in a tough division and their run game hasn’t been the greatest yet they are still winning games. This week they get the Chiefs which could put an end to their exciting comeback story.
Indianapolis Colts (2-1)
Previous Rank: 17
The Colts are getting things done and Jacoby Brissett looked very comfortable and dare I say shining in his performance against the Falcons last week. Brissett threw for over 300 yards and had two touchdowns in this game while the running regime also got it done with Mack scoring a rushing touchdown as well. Their defense did alright here when it is hard to shut down receivers like Julio. Overall, they are doing well and this week they get the Oakland Raiders which should give them victory if the defense can step up and pressure Derek Carr.
Philadelphia Eagles (1-2)
Previous Rank: 8
The Eagles drop hard on the list after a loss to the Detroit Lions last week. There is no easy way to say it, but this team is hurt and suffering for it. The Lions embarrassed them early with a special teams score and did well to keep them behind for most of the game. Their defense suffered the most here with Carson Wentz still finding some success without wide receiver stars Alshon Jeffrey and DeSean Jackson. This week they get the Packers and they better find a way to stop Aaron Rodgers or it is game over for them.
Minnesota Vikings (2-1)
Previous Rank: 13
Honestly, it is nothing against the Vikings for dropping a spot this week after cleaning the Raiders’ clock last week. There are just better teams in my mind. With that being said the main takeaway from this game is that Dalvin Cook is a stud and continues to shine each week with his performances. They held the Raiders in check for most of this game, but still allowed Carr to get two touchdowns. Cousins continues to struggle a bit with one touchdown against a shaky Raiders defense, but honestly he doesn’t have to do much with the Vikings going for a more run based attack. This week they get the Bears which Cousins struggles a lot against if you saw last year’s games.
Los Angeles Chargers (1-2)
Previous Rank: 11
The Chargers drop two spots after another loss. The Texans who struggled passing against the Jaguars found no trouble here with Watson scoring three touchdowns and 384 passing yards. This Chargers team desperately needs Derwin James back from injury because they are struggling hard. Rivers didn’t do bad here with over 300 yards and two touchdowns with both of them going to star wide receiver Keenan Allen. Austin Ekeler is doing what he can until the time is right for Melvin Gordon to come back. This week they basically get a bye facing a trash Miami Dolphins team.
San Francisco 49ers (3-0)
Previous Rank: 16
Gotta give it to the 49ers. They are 3-0 and are tied with the Rams for first place in their division. They did look sloppy in their game with the Steelers, but honestly I am not too worried about this team. They were my dark horse team this year and they are proving me right by beating my favorite team in the Steelers. Garappolo threw one touchdown and two picks and had three more turnovers and still came away with a victory. This week they have a bye so there isn’t much to discuss until next week.
Seattle Seahawks (2-1)
Previous Rank: 6
Maybe I had the Seahawks a little too high for my own liking, but they drop six spots after their first loss of the season to the Saints and they didn’t have Drew Brees. That is my main reasoning for dropping them so far. I did not think Teddy Bridgewater was bad in this game, but he made mince meat out of the defense and did it with only 177 yards and two touchdowns. The takeaways in this game are Chris Carson can’t hold onto a ball, but wow Russell Wilson looked good in this game. He had 404 passing yards two touchdowns and two rushing scores as well. The Seahawks will look to rebound against the defenseless Arizona Cardinals this week.
Buffalo Bills (3-0)
Previous Ranking: 15
Alright so most of the Thoughts From the Bench team wanted to know why the Bills deserved to be in the top ten. At first I didn’t want to put them in, but looking now at things maybe it is not such a bad idea. The Bills are 3-0 which is crazy to believe, but at the same time not with the teams they have beaten; the Jets, the Giants and the Bengals. However, they are doing it with poise and finesse and it starts with two things; Josh Allen and the defense. As long as these things keep doing well they should be fine. However, they face the Patriots this week which could have drop out of their first time in the top ten.
Baltimore Ravens (2-1)
Previous Rank: 6
The Ravens drop three spots after coming up with a loss against the Kansas City Chiefs. The main reason is that Lamar really didn’t look that great with only throwing for 267 yards with no touchdowns and only making fifty one percent of his passes. They relied heavy on the run game though with Mark Ingram having a huge day. The defense tried its best to stop Mahomes, but come on he is Patrick Mahomes. This should have been a time for Lamar to show off his skills and even though he scored a rushing touchdown his throwing accuracy worries me when it comes to better defenses. Case in point they face the Browns this week who have a decent defense. Let’s see if he can step up to the plate.
New Orleans Saints (2-1)
Previous Rank: 13
The Saints jump back into the top ten after a very impressive matchup with the Seahawks last week. Teddy Bridgewater didn’t do much, but he still threw two touchdown passes and did what he needed to do in this game. Kamara was a stud in this one scoring from the ground and in the air against a struggling Seattle defense. Speaking of the defense, the Saints didn’t do very good against Wilson who scored four total times against them in this game. This week they get the Cowboys who are on a huge roll going 3-0.
Chicago Bears (2-1)
Previous Rank: 10
The Bears move up three spots after a very impressive victory over the Washington Redskins. Not only did the defense dominate, but the offense looked good for the first time all year with Trubisky throwing for three touchdowns all to receiver Taylor Gabriel. He did throw a costly interception late in the game, but I am not too concerned with that. These are Trubisky’s first touchdowns of the season and they all looked great. The defense picked off Keenum three times and made him fumble twice. This week they get the Vikings so expect the defense to make Kirk Cousins shake in his boots again.
Green Bay Packers (3-0)
Previous Rank: 9
The Packers are proving this is a new year going 3-0 to start. They demolished the Broncos last week with Aaron Rodgers throwing a touchdown and Aaron Jones running two more scores in on the ground. Their secondary looks very good, but honestly their rush defense is still lacking allowing Phillip Lindsay to rush two scores in on them last week. They still held Flacco to less than 250 yards and interception along with a fumble which also helps them. This week they get the Eagles which could be a very good matchup for Aaron Rodgers.
Houston Texans (2-1)
Previous Rank: 7
The Texans move up two spots after coming away with a victory against the Chargers. Watson looked really good in this game throwing for 351 yards and three touchdowns against a struggling Chargers defense. Overall, they are doing quite well and their defense is hanging in there. They just need to protect Watson which is becoming hard for them this season. This week they get the Panthers and they just need to stop McCaffrey and figure out to demolish Kyle Allen.
Dallas Cowboys (3-0)
Previous Rank: 4
The Cowboys stay put at four after being the third team to put the Dolphins down hard. Dak Prescott did well in this game minus the interception he threw, but he still connected with Amari Cooper twice for touchdowns in this game and also ran one in. Elliot didn’t have a touchdown in this game, but he ran for 125 yards and rookie running back Tony Pollard also ran for over 100 yards and a score. This week they get a Saints team who just gave up over 400 passing yards to Russell Wilson and the Seahawks.
Los Angeles Rams (3-0)
Previous Rank: 3
The Rams got a victory last Sunday night against the Browns, but it wasn’t impressive enough to move them up in the rankings. Goff looked sloppy throwing two picks, but still managed to throw two touchdowns to Cooper Kupp. Gurley was put in check on the run game, but Brandin Cooks lit up the secondary with eight receptions for 112 yards. The defense did well intercepting Mayfield twice and holding him to under 200 yards passing. This week they get the Buccaneers which should give them a 4-0 record depending on how Winston plays.
Kansas City Chiefs (3-0)
Previous Rank: 2
The Chiefs made a statement this week by knocking off the rising Baltimore Ravens. Mahomes looked better than ever tossing three touchdown passes and 374 yards. He is doing so well this year that he is the only quarterback this season with over a thousand yards passing, ten touchdowns and no interceptions. The run game did well with both LeSean McCoy and Darrel Williams in the backfield. Their defense actually looked good this game, but it still has room to improve. They get the chance to scorch the Lions’ winning streak this week which should be a nice game to watch.
New England Patriots (3-0)
Previous Rank: 1
The Patriots couldn’t have had an easier game to play this week facing the New York Jets who are hot garbage this season. Brady threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns in this game and he was pulled from it, but eventually was brought back in after his backup threw a pick six in the game. Burkhead ended up being the running back of choice for this game having a rushing score. Also, with Julian Edelman going out with an injury, Josh Gordon became the main receiver in the game. They get the Bills this week and this is going to be an interesting one to watch I can tell you that.
