Start of the Week –
Julian Edelman vs Miami Dolphins
Edelman was my start of the week last week and I am rolling with yet again for his matchup with the Miami Dolphins. While Phillip Dorsett and Josh Gordon saw the touchdowns last week, Edelman still had six receptions for eighty three yards against Pittsburgh. Antonio Brown will be the talk of the town heading into New England, but I see Edelman getting a touchdown or two in this game and making the Miami defense look even worse than last week.
Tyrell Williams vs Kansas City Chiefs
Tyrell Williams completely surprised me last week as I had him as a bust and he finished with six receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown against the Denver Broncos. I think he will just as well in this contest against the Chiefs. The Chiefs will score early prompting Carr to throw to his new favorite receiver. The Kansas City defense isn’t that great either which makes this a decent matchup in my mind.
Sammy Watkins vs Oakland Raiders
On the other side of the game we have a new receiver that took the place of Tyreek Hill when he went down with a collarbone and sternum injury; Sammy Watkins. Patrick Mahomes hooked up with Watkins for three touchdowns, nine receptions and 198 yards. Expect the Raiders to be put to the test as Hill will be out for a while giving Watkins the main stage to perform another act against Oakland.
Brandin Cooks vs New Orleans Saints
Cooks didn’t have the strongest showing against the Panthers like I hoped he would have, but he gets a better matchup in my mind this week against the New Orleans Saints a team which he has played for in the past. It’s a perfect revenge stat line waiting to happen as I believe Cooks will be the true vertical threat in this game. In any case, the Saints have proven they struggle against deep vertical threats almost costing them a week one game against the Texans. If you have Cook put him in your lineup this week.
DeSean Jackson vs Atlanta Falcons
We saw the career rebirth of the fast rebellious DeSean Jackson last week in their win against the Washington Redskins. Jackson caught eight balls for 154 yards and two touchdowns. out of his ten targets Carson Wentz gave him. From the stats it seems like Wentz has found a new number one receiver who can maybe take the Eagles to another Super Bowl. The matchup isn’t a favorable one, but after his performance last week you gotta give him a shot.
Marquise Brown vs Arizona Cardinals
Michael Gallup vs Washington Redskins
Jamison Crowder vs Cleveland Browns
Sit of the Week –
Larry Fitzgerald vs Baltimore Ravens
While it is very tough to sit Larry Fitzgerald after his radical performance last week you just have to in my honest opinion. Even though last week he had eight catches for 113 yards and a touchdown the matchup is far from favorable. Add to the fact that Kyler Murray will be under mass pressure from a strong defense puts him in a position to dump the ball off rather than look for Fitzgerald.
D.K. Metcalf vs Pittsburgh Steelers
Metcalf surprised even me last week when he was the leading receiver for the Seahawks last week when they faced the Bengals. He caught four balls for eighty nine yards. This week however he travels with the Seahawks to the Steel City to take on the Steelers who are looking to take out aggression after a frustrating and embarrassing loss to the Patriots. If there was a receiver to start it would be Lockett though as the Steelers have struggled against slot receivers in the past, but in Metcalf’s case I’d keep him on the bench this week.
Courtland Sutton vs Chicago Bears
Sutton was Flacco’s guy in their Monday night loss against the Raiders catching seven balls for 120 yards. Flacco is going to be under a huge amount of pressure from a Bears defense that is looking for their first win of the season. If you need any more reason to sit Sutton the Bears held star receiver Davante Adams to under eight points which is reason enough to say no to Sutton this week.
Jarvis Landry vs New York Jets
While I believe the Cleveland Browns offense could bounce back against the Jets this week I do not have good faith in Jarvis Landry this week. The Jets’ improved defense was not very kind to slot receiver Cole Beasley last week hold him to just forty yards. One can argue that Landry and Beasley are not the same, but Beasley has a lot of experience in the slot position and came up short. Just to be safe don’t take this chance.
Marquise Valdez-Scatling vs Minnesota Vikings
This one is a dark horse sit this week as I have a lot of faith in this kid, but the matchup isn’t very favorable. The Vikings defense put a lot of pressure on Matt Ryan in week one and it took a while for Ryan to get the ball to his receivers. Aaron Rodgers will make some plays happen and he might even do well, but after seeing the Vikings in week one’s contest I don’t feel 100% in playing him if you got him.
