Beyond the Arc
by Ben Fiore
Tobias Harris has been traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Philadelphia 76ers. Harris has been the best player on the team since he was traded there last year from Detroit in the Blake Griffin deal. This trade between LA and Philly includes Tobias Harris, Boban Marjonovic, and Mike Scott heading to the Sixers while Landry Shamet, Wilson Chandler, and Mike Muscala with a 2020 1st round pick and 2021 unprotected and two second rounders getting shipped to the Clips.
This season, Harris is averaging 21 PPG and 8 RPG. He is a 6’9, 235 lb long tank that is genuinely one of the smoothest players I’ve ever watched. He is a Tennessee alumni that has played for the Magic, Bucks, Pistons, Clippers and now Sixers. It has taken him a while to get his feet under him, but he has flourished in LA and will do so more now in Philly. Everything he does is fluent and easy looking. His handles, size and scoring ability will boost Philly where they need to be. That line up is now Ben Simmons, JJ Reddick, Jimmy Butler, Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid. I said earlier this year that the Sixers SHOULD win the east, and this might be the move that puts them there. I am more excited to see this team chemistry than Tom Brady is to kiss dudes.
For the Clippers, they are now left with Montrezl Harrell, Lou Williams and (the only key addition of the trade) Landry Shamet. Although Trez is built like a MonStar and has finally hit his stride, they have less size now tih Tobi and Boban gone. Lou Will is getting older, and hopefully Shamet’s promising potential will guide their guards to a better future. Ultimately, the Clips made a mistake not resigning Harris this upcoming offseason. He was a young vet that could be built around, and now Philadelphia has the chance to go crazy with this All Star line up.
I see the 76ers AT LEAST going to the Eastern Conference Final now. I will put cash on it so HMU. If they keep Harris and Butler along with their pillars of pimpittude in Embiid and Simmons, oooooh them boys will be ICE COLD. As for the Clippers… that’s a bold strategy cotton, we’ll see if it pays off.
