This. This is the exact thing that can fix the NBA. I’m on the record saying that basically, I’m not a fan of the “Buddy-Buddy” NBA. I think it leads to too many fake moments and too many free agent variables. Think back in the day; Jordan and Thomas HATED each other. So much in fact, that Jordan said it was basically him or Isaiah Thomas on the national team. To give your country’s team an ultimatum between the GOAT and a pretty good point guard knowing they ain’t leaving you at home is just pure hate.
Giannis is one of the best basketball players on the planet, and he has a potential like we haven’t seen before. This kid started playing basketball in 2007, and by 2009 was playing competitively for his youth squad, Filathlitikos. By 2012, he had joined the senior squad and played for their second tier greek league team in 2012-2013. Five years after he started playing basketball, he was playing professionally….insane.
The real reason I love this story though is the fact that I’m so sick and tired of NBA players being all buddy buddy. No one wants Carmelo Anthony on their team, even his “friends”, so what’s a benefit of this whole “Let’s work out int he offseason” mentality? The Greek Freak is setting a precedent here…you’re either with us or against us. And I love it.
This is a trend that will take over the NBA. Look at the next level of Super Stars; Giannis, Booker, Donovan Mitchell, even guys like Dame and Westbrook. These guys don’t want friends, they want championships for the teams that drafted them and I’m here for it.
I’m getting pretty sick and tired of the whole “They’re best friends, who cares if they want to play against each other?” argument. Yes, I’m sure it’s a blast to lob the ball to someone you also had in your wedding, but my lord can we get back into some rivalries? The NBA really tried to make the Lakers vrs. the Cavs a big deal….come on now.
Giannis – Keep On Young Buck.
