In the course of their rivalry, Phil “Lefty” Mickelson and Tiger Woods have never really gotten the show to go head to head. Two of the greatest to ever do it, Tiger and Phil were at the front of the charge to bring golf to the main stream. Tiger Woods is arguably the GOAT, and Left has been a household name, winning 43 events on the tour.
These guys are perfect for each other. Phil, a left handed golfer by choice alone, against a GOAT candidate on the come back. I can’t wait to watch Phil chirp at Tiger.
For a sport that takes seriousness and funny clothing rules to a new height, this should be a match like we’ve never seen. There will be smack talk and hopefully a few tricks and laughs along the way. Keep in mind : this might be a spectacle, but this will be super competitive.
The course is called Shadow Creek. It was created to have a golf course seem to just pop up in a beautiful landscape. This long, tight course will be the perfect test for these two this late in their careers. Designed by the legendary Tom Fazio, Shadow Creek is a Las Vegas gem, created out of a flat desert landscape. Shadow Creek scored #26 on the America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses and #5 on America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses.
Tiger is the come back story of a life time. He looks great, and is off of a tour win a few months ago that still feels magical. I will say though, if anyone can get Tiger off of his game it’s Lefty. These two have been intertwined forever and when Phil is dialed in, he’s nearly unstoppable.
I think the thing I’m the most excited about, aside from the smack talk, is the short game ability these two men have. This should have happened years ago, but as we’ve seen across almost all sports the games we want we rarely get. This is basically Floyd v Manny, except both of Phil and Tiger are still out here winning legit tournaments.
This is an amazing event for all sports. I’d pay a ton of money to watch Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Tom Brady have an accuracy tournament. Same with watching a game of horse with James, Durant and Steph. These types of tournaments must continue to happen and I think The Match will be a resounding positive for the entire sports market.
Look. It’s only 20 bucks to watch arguably the greatest golf spectacle in this worlds history. Find a friend, find a stream, find some money and find a tv.
