The sports world is coming back and the latest sport to announce their return plan is Major League Soccer. The North American pro soccer league has something special planned for all it’s fans with a 54 match tournament that will span over a total of 35 days.
I’m a MASSIVE fan of these weird COVID-19 caused tournaments. The biggest issue amongst traditional sports fans with the return of sports if the worry that all of this seasons sporting events will have pretty big asterisks next to them, something that my sports-wanting mind doesn’t even care about.
This MLS tournament will take place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida with no spectators. which was widely expected. The winner of this wonderful tourny will get the greatest prize of all, a spot in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League. Man do I wish there was a Champions League for the entire planet.
Here are the tentative dates as of right now :
- July 8: Group stage begins
- July 25-28: Round of 16
- July 30-Aug. 1: Quarterfinals
- Aug. 5-6: Semifinals
- Aug. 11: Tournament final
Additional bonuses such as a $1.1 million prize pool will add to the tournaments excitement. I’m just happy sports are back.
