Tonight the Pittsburgh Penguins face off against the Florida Panthers at PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins and their fans will be celebrating 70s night. Fans will be able to hear all of the classic 70s hits, play classic arcade games, and are encouraged to dress in 70s inspired attire.
The Penguins plan on having a few more Theme nights this season:
Feb.5th vs Carolina Hurricanes- 80s Night
Mar. 5th vs Florida Panthers- 90s Night
The throwback nights are always a good idea, but what other Theme Nights could the Penguins do? Here are some options!
- Nurses Night- In case you didn’t know, Pittsburgh is known for its medical research and hospitals. The Penguins are sponsored by both UPMC and Highmark, so why not have a night showing appreciation to all the nurses in the area? Maybe raffle off some Penguins scrubs to the fans attending.
- Cartoon Night- I know some baseball teams have done this in the past, and it always seems to be a good time for the fans. The Penguins organization could bring in some of our favorite childhood cartoon characters to interact with fans young and old. In addition, in-game videos could be edited to look like comic book scenes and cartoon characters.
- The Office Night- Who doesn’t love the office? Fans can dress as their favorite characters, stars from The Office can make guest appearances, and players could recreate scenes from their favorite episodes. I don’t know about you, but seems easy enough (that’s what she said).
- Last but not least, Roaring 20s Night- The upcoming season will be 2019-2020 so it only makes sense. Similar to other throwback nights, fans dress in their 1920s fashion, the arena plays 20s music, and the arena should play all black and white videos for the full classic effect.
The Penguins went all out with their themed nights last year with live bands, retro style scoreboards and graphics, and even some throwback in game videos. I’m excited to see what they have in store for tonight. Have a Tubular Tuesday!
